I’ve never spoken with a literary agent before, and honestly, I hadn’t given much thought to what the day-to-day looked like on your side of the publishing world. Good to know there’s someone out there who’s not only passionate about what they do but also honest about how tough and messy it can be.
Uff, I’m boggled just reading that. I had no idea that’s what the behind the scenes looked like. Thank you for sharing and I hope you do get to enjoy some downtime.
Publishing is hard all the year round and for all involved in it. It makes you wonder WHY! but we love it, disappointments and all. The insight into your working day is quite exhausting just reading it but I van see you give yourself space at times but perhaps not enough. The treadmill is demanding especially when you have so many cracking the whip. Live long and prosper. x
Thanks for the glance behind the curtain. I enjoy the real picture of what you have to do to do what you do for everyone. I would recommend getting to the gym first thing before you start your day. I think you’ll find yourself more energized for what you need to take on. I wish you all the best. ‘Talk soon.
Agenting is a hard hustle. Back in the day, I knew some junior agents at the top three entertainment agencies in LA. They worked nonstop. And when the lit agent who was repping the deal for the book I wrote, switched agencies during the deal, my writing partner - who she repped - said she wouldn't receive any money from the deal. And she still had to handle the deal. I thought that was harsh. So kudos to you, Kesia. Thanks for letting writers see through the agent's lens.
Hey Kesia! Thank you so much for this post and all you do. As a querying writer, what I find most impressive is the amount of task switching you do. Good luck and I hope you find great new clients.
That's quite a schedule. I have a lot of respect for agents in America who put their heart into it like you do. Mental health matters, so those times vegging with shows in the evening are important :-)
Thanks for helping make this opaque industry that little bit more transparent! I appreciate it and I am sure many, many others do too!
Aw thanks Louie!!!

Thank you so much for this - much appreciated ❤️

I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It sounds factual, honest and lively.
Best wishes.
Thank you so much!!

That’s probably very sage advice (if I can haul myself out of bed early enough, I might…). Thank you Jim!
You work so hard! You clearly love what you do. Thank you for the insight! This industry is tough, but worth it.
WOW!!! Thanks for sharing. It really provides insight into the publishing industry and the incredibly hardworking life of an agent.
This is such a great insight into that side of the industry. Thank you so much for such a candid look at what it’s like.
Thank you for reading!!

Thanks for reading and responding, Carlton - and not receiving money but working on the deal... so rough!
You're welcome.
That's what I thought. The agent said that's the way it goes sometimes.

You are a rockstar, Kesia! Thanks for sharing how this new journey is going.
Thank you, Kesia, for all that you do - I hope it becomes calmer before too long!
Thank you!!! I hope so too.
Wow, that sounds like you have a huge amount on your plate! And after all those queries 😵💫 I don’t know how you juggle it all!
A fascinating insight into the 'other half' of the publishing game!
